I will admit, I may have been wrong about these blackouts in Norcal. They aren’t just PGE negligence. This is the wind forecast for Mill Valley (a blackout area):
That’s odd. 11mph? Hardly the apocalypse.
SF and several towns around the bay have been looking into taking over PGE by eminent domain and the union is pissed about it.
In July of this year, lobbyists for PGE got the state to pass a bill making it impossible for local governments to take over PGE infrastructure by eminent domain (because several towns/cities including SF were looking into it). Now, the opposition has been trying to delay that law going into effect so they can do it first.
“AB1054, a state wildfire law passed in July, would make it harder for the city to buy PG&E equipment [which could have previously been done at market value through eminent domain] because it increases the regulatory oversight required for such a deal [by requiring oversight and approval from the California Utilities Commission]. But another bill, SB550, tries to solve that problem by pushing those regulatory provisions into 2021.”

(In a mobster voice) “Gee, wouldn’t be terrible if there were blackouts? You know, because of the weather - or an accident.”

As a non Californian, I can’t decipher what you’re upset about. Either way, I’m still building a wall to keep Californians from retiring in, or sending their kids to Arizona schools.

Haha. A bunch of Norcal has it’s power out tonight because PGE turned it off on purpose. The excuse is that high winds could cause lines to fall over and start wildfires.
However, the winds have not materialized ( looks like they won’t according to Google ) so I started to look a bit deeper into what’s going on with PGE. The fires over the last few years have lead to their declared bankruptcy and communities have basically had enough of their complete incompetence. The one thing they aren’t bad at is politics / lobbying . Seeing the writing on the wall, they got the government to pass a bill that helps maintain their monopoly. The communities have fought back with a proposed bill to delay that bill. PGE has hit back with blackouts.

We’ve been seeing sustained winds around 20- 25mph for the last few hours in Sacramento. Not nearly as bad as thought, but we also don’t have to deal with blackouts (PG&E is just for water and gas here, we have SMUD for electricity).
Also, Mill Valley, I rather like that town. Went to a two-night show there last winter at the Sweetwater Music Hall. Quite enjoyed myself, although the hotel was further down, almost into Sausalito.

You’d think that’d motivate people to organize against PG&E and backfire on them /Pollyanna

WA has been trying for that wall for 35 years now. So far, no dice. Good luck, you’ll need it - like fighting a swarm of locusts with a fly swatter.

California apparently has travel bans in effect for a number of states, at least a quarter of them. Fair’s fair.

I had lost track of the story, but it says a lot about how CA doesn’t really have any respect for other parts of the country.
“Because we have it all figured out there. All of it...”
